Catholic Teachers’ Association Malaysia CTAM
The Catholic Teachers’ Association Malaysia (CTAM) will be celebrating its 55th anniversary on Oct 10, 2015 at the Kelab Golf Negara Subang.
The guest-of-honour for the dinner is Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur Reverend Julian Leow.
At the event, CTAM will be recognising the Religious Teaching Congregations who have contributed immensely towards education in Malaysia by presenting them with the Rev Bro Lawrence Siptzig FSC Award.
This award was inaugurated after the death of Bro. Lawrence who was a co-founder and spiritual advisor of CTAM.
The CTAM took root with a gathering of a few Catholic teachers in Kuala Lumpur in 1959 who met to discuss common problems in their profession.
Today, 55 years down the road, CTAM is an association where Catholic teachers come together for spiritual growth, personal development, self-enrichment and fellowship.
In coming together for skills-nourishment and to grow in professionalism, the members of CTAM are able to reach out to the poor regardless of race and creed to carry out their mission as educators.
The seven recipients of the Rev Bro Lawrence Siptzig FSC Award this year are Brothers of the Christian Schools (also known as the La Salle Brothers), who founded the Lasallian Institutions in Malaysia; Sisters of the Infant Jesus, who founded the CHIJ Schools, Franciscan Missionaries of Mary (FMM), who are responsible for the setting up of the Assunta Schools in Petaling Jaya; Marist Brothers, who are known for setting up Catholic High School in Petaling Jaya and SMJK Sam Tet in Ipoh; Brothers of St. Gabriel, who established the Monfort Boys’ Town in Shah Alam; Good Shepherd Sisters, who set up the Good Shepherd Convent in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur and Canossian Sisters, who ran the Convent Schools in Malacca.
Those who wish to attend CTAM’s 55th anniversary dinner with the theme “Passion and Glory in Education” can contact Angeline (012-2072150), Neubert (017-8783949), Francis (012-3881385) or the Parish Office
Funds raised from the dinner will also go towards organizing activities and programmes for teachers, trainee-teachers and the less fortunate.
